ABOUT ME

I did my undergraduate studies at School of Pharmacy, getting the knowledge of chemistry and biochemistry of medicinal pharmaceuticals. During my Master degree in the Department of Pharmacognosy-School of Pharmacy, I discovered novel medicines with antispasmodic and mydriatic activities. During my MSc., I got experience by training in several techniques including analytical chemistry, phytochemistry, biochemistry and biotechnology of pharmaceutical products including tissue culture and genetic engineering. I received my PhD from University of Guelph, Canada on 2011. In my PhD, I was interested in deep understanding the chemical biosynthesis, biochemistry and chemical evolution of fungal Taxol. I used techniques including microscopy, microbiology, mycology, immunohistocytochemistry to get in deep knowledge of where and how is Taxol localized and secreted from its original host. In my PostDoc fellowship at the Science and Technology Centre, AAFC, Canada, I was involved in projects related to environmental chemistry and modification of natural toxins. In this project I was in charge of detection and natural detoxification (including Bacterial Biotransformation) of mycotoxins (natural product toxin produced by fungi) accumulated in food causing serious damage to animal stock and human health. During my fellowship at Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at UCLA, I was addressing the biosynthetic pathway of novel anti-leukemic drug and its production into model organism. At Medical School-UCLA, I was investigating the mechanism of serious disease caused by natural toxins produced by fungus lives into the human tissues including the brain, with the promise to develop a specific diagnostic assay and antibodies-based treatment.

RESEARCH FOCUS

Natural products are considered as the end products of any biological reaction within an organism. Natural prodcuts prodcued in nature for an important evolutionary function. Deep understanding of these substances including production, biosynthesis, mechanism of release and their evolutionary function, and its impacted on our life. Natural products could be pharmaceutical drug such as the antibiotic penicillin or the hypocholesteremic aganet lovastatin. Natural products could be responsible for life-threteneing disease such as patulin toxicity. On the other hand natural products could help in the understanding of biological phenomena such as the discovery of endophytic bacteria that promot the growth and quality of crop plants. My Research focus is on 1) discovery of novel pharmaceutical products that can be developed to novel drugs in particular anticancer and antimicrobial. 2) Elucidating the natural products biosynthetic pathway for either understanding their importance in its original host or using its backbone for developing effective medicins. To successfully address these topics, several approaches are applied including analytical chemistry, molecular genetics, biochemistry, bioinformatics, structural biology and bioengineering.
